Dr. Stephenson Thomas is a gastroenterologist at capital digestive care. Her love for medicine began at a young age, and by the time she finished high school she had volunteered 1,000 hours as a hospital volunteer. After graduating Spelman College, Dr. Stephenson Thomas received her medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. While in medical school, she also completed an MBA with a concentration in Health and Medical Services at Saint Joseph University. Following internal medicine residency, Dr. Stephenson Thomas completed a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine. She decided to further pursue gastroenterology with a fellowship at Midwestern University in Chicago – a decision that was reinforced when she lost her father to stomach cancer in 2009. Dr. Stephenson Thomas currently practices general gastroenterology, with an interest in IBS and plans to venture into the area of wellness. Among her accomplishments, Dr. Stephenson Thomas was appointed by Governor Hogan to sit on the Maryland State Board of Physicians in 2016 and served four years. She has also been featured in FDA physician clinical seminars. Dr. Stephenson Thomas has been consistently recognized by her peers as “Top Doctor” in the Washingtonian Magazine and has been featured on the magazine cover. As a physician, she strives to provide great care and form trusting relationships with her patients. Dr. Stephenson Thomas enjoys being a physician but believes balance is key, and spending time with family is important. She also enjoys traveling, golf, appreciates art and music, and loves to mentor and volunteer in the community.
